To increase the learners understanding of the human respiratory system and importance of maintaining airway patency through secretion management, and safely perform procedures to clear the patient’s airway.

       On completion of the course the learner should understand

• Anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system
• Understand the consequences of Aspiration and hypoxia on the patients’ health status
• The indications and types of Suctioning
• The suctioning procedure and associated complications
• Cough Assist settings and procedure and associated complications
• The indications for humidification, hydration and nebulisations
• Observations and documentation of care delivered
• Reporting of concerns
