This
course covers the knowledge base and practice of safe management of the
patients medicine in accordance with the law, best practice guidance,
and local medicines management policy, to ensure that at all times patient are
supported with their medicines way that promotes their rights, dignity and
independence.
On
completion of the course the learner should:
•Be able to define and describe what a
medicine is
•Be able to explain what medication management
entails
•Be aware of the laws and regulations that
govern the use of medicines
•Be aware of the content of their local
medicine management policy
•Have knowledge of various medicine groups
•Understand their professional role in the
receipt, storage, administration and disposal of unwanted medicines
•Understand the importance of monitoring the
treatment and side effects of medicines administered to the patient
•Understand the importance of documentation,
including completing the medication administration records (MAR) and reporting
errors and adverse drug reactions
